BONDING/WHITE FILLINGS
A broken tooth can leave with a bite that has a jagged edge and smile that... that just doesn't look right. For years, the most common method for restoring a chipped tooth was amalgams -- a.k.a. a "silver tooth." A bonding is the more natural-looking option if you prefer not to have a "metalic" smile, and it's a more cost-effective alternative to veneers. Procedure A bonding is a composite resign, and the bonding procedure is usually completed in one visit. The first step is to essentially "smooth out" the broken tooth's rough edges, either through removing the decayed or unsightly portion. After the tooth is etched with a liquid or gel, a bonding agent is applied, which allows the composite resin to be placed in the prepared tooth.
The resin is then trimmed and polished, leaving with a beautifully sculpted and fully restored smile. Bonding Durability
Although cosmetically pleasing, composite resins' are not as durable as other restorations. A bonding typically lasts 4-7 years before beginning to chip or wear away. At that point, a new restoration will need to be completed. |
